St.Petersburg: Excursions
St. Petersburg was the capital of imperial Russia, when the October Revolution sent shockwaves around the world in 1917. Together with Evgeny Bokhanovsky, one of our most senior teachers, we explore historical sights connected with the revolution, such as the battleship Aurora and the Museum for Political History and will cover following interesting topics:
- Overview of the political situation in imperial Russia in 1917 with the head of the provisional government (Kerenski) loosing ground against the Bolsheviks under Lenin (who only recently returned to Russia).
- What exactly happened during the October Revolution and where?
- What role played “Smolny”, the former mansion of Kseshinski and the battleship Aurora
- Why was the revolution successful?
- The formation of Soviet Russia and the Soviet Union. Enthusiasm and Repression.
This walking tour lasts three hours and will be conducted in Russian. Where necessary will explanations be provided in German and English.
